A Collection of Hebrew Idioms: Understanding the Language of Heaven

Our newest Seminar; "A Collection of Hebrew Idioms: Understanding the Language of Heaven" will challenge and fascinate even the most serious "disciple." The Introduction briefly addresses some of the profound differences between Greek and Hebrew and explores the correlation between language and worldview. It emphasizes the importance of Hebrew Poetry in understanding the Bible and Hebrew's emphasis on "content, not chronology."

Chapter two deals with the significance of each letter of the Hebrew alphabet and other related concepts. This includes the use of acronyms, various concepts that are intrinsically connected to the way the language "works" and "Gematria" - a form of numerology (or numerics). The latter is evident in many Biblical texts, most notable in the way that Matthew organizes Yeshua's genealogy (Mat 1:1-16).

Chapter three identifies hundreds of Hebrew idioms that employ the names of various parts of the human body - idioms that include word(s) like "hand," "foot," "head," "face," "arm," "eye," "ear" and "heart."

Chapter four discusses selected idioms in the Synoptic Gospels and other New Covenant texts as well. This includes such idioms as "my Father's house" (Luke 2:49), the "poor in spirit" and the "kingdom of heaven" (Mat 5:3), being "persecuted because of righteousness" (Mat 5:10), "abolish," "fulfill" and the "least in the kingdom of heaven" (Mat 5:17-20), "Do not resist an evil person" (Mat 5:39), the "finger of God" (Luke 11:20), the "camel" and the "eye of the needle" (Mat 19:24), the "good" and "bad" eye (Mat 6:22), "whatever you bind ... whatever you loose" (Mat 16:19), "do not throw you pearls to pigs" (Mat 7:6), the "dry" and "green" trees (Luke 23:31), the "violence" that the Kingdom of Heaven "suffers" (Mat 11:12), and many, many others. And, terms like "son of God," "son of man," "Christ" and "Messiah," etc.

The Workbook includes an extensive "Glossary of Terms and Sources" - those gleaned from the rabbinic literature as well as the Dead Sea Scrolls. This Seminar is a bit more "advanced" than some of the others - but richly rewarding to those who apply themselves to it's lessons.
